A Message From Your Baser Nature

An Appeal From Your Baser Nature

Hello, my dearest darling

Do you remember me?

I’ve spent along time waiting

Watching on T.V.

I am the sea from which you rose

(Perhaps you don’t recall)

And should the Gods grant you repose

Into my sea you’ll fall.

I fill the empty heads of fools

(Who are not in short supply)

They are nothing but the tools

To sound my battle cry.

I’m the fundamental level

Of every Human soul

Reduced to your essentials—

That’s when I take control.

You’ve fought me off for centuries

But I only need win once—

And it’s back to aristocracies,

Clergies and witch-hunts.

Your books may grant you succour

Your mind keep me at bay;

But should you ever falter

I’ll carry you astray.

(It has always seemed to me that morality can only be maintained so long as our baser instincts are kept in check by the force of our reason; but that takes work).
