New Beginnings

Hello and welcome, o multitudes of the Internet! This is the place where I, the Venerable Corvex, shall favour you with my writings and opinions on a wide range of subjects. Without getting into so much detail that I undermine my own carefully-cultivated mystique, I shall relate a few (incredibly true) facts about myself.

First of all, I am currently working on my Master’s degree in theoretical physics at a major Canadian university. I am especially interested in black hole thermodynamics and the holographic principle, as well as all of the cosmological implications that surround these things.

Secondly, I also engage in the writing of fiction every so often (I try to make a point, following something I once read about Terry Pratchett, of writing no fewer than four hundred words a day, although this is a difficult routine to keep when you happen to be a grad student in theoretical physics). It is therefore entirely possible (and indeed likely) that I shall at some point expose you to my stories, should you linger around this place long enough.

Thirdly, I should also say that, all evidence to the contrary, I fancy myself to be a bit of a poet as well. You have been warned.

Lastly, I’m afraid that I have a lamentable addiction to politics. I personally consider myself to be a social democrat (or a democratic socialist, I can’t be arsed to care which), but I’m sure that many readers will not hesitate to correct me on this point, and further submit that I am, in fact, a “commie nutbar” or a “bourgeois counter-revolutionary pig,” as is their want.

With all of that now out of the way, I look forward to posting more in the coming days.

About thevenerablecorvex

I have the heart of a poet, the brain of a theoretical physicist, and the wingspan of an albatross. I am also notable for my humility.

Obviously I can’t really tell you whether you are a poet or not until I have seen your poetry, but your prose is beautiful. It reads a lot like lyric poetry to me, even if it’s not metrical or broken into lines and stanzas.

You are also very witty, and your physics posts are perfectly clear to this non-physicist.

(Also, what is a Corvex? Is it a thing? A name?)

  2. I’m standing by the story that “Corvex” is a portmanteau of Corvus Rex. In reality, I just misremembered the Latin for “crow” at one point a few years ago.
